POPE FRANCIS AND CHILEAN BISHOPS MEETING IN ROME

May, 2018

I assumed the entire coverage of the meeting between Pope Francis and the Chilean bishops in Rome in May of last year. In this instance, they addressed the tremendous cases of sexual abuse that have hit the Chilean Church. In addition, all the bishops made their posts available to the Pope. During that week, I got exclusive quotes from some of the Chilean bishops and, also, from the Vatican's vice-speaker, Paloma García Ovejero, who said: "This is serious, it's not a media circus. The Pope wants to analyse the causes in depth and look for real solutions ".

ABOUT

The Full Story

Since completing my undergraduate studies in 2010, I have dedicated myself to journalism working for the two largest newspapers in Chile, El Mercurio and La Tercera. In both jobs, I have specialised mainly in the Politics section, with a strong focus in research and reporting. This is how I conducted interviews with relevant authorities in my country, including Ministers, Senators and Members of the Parliament. Also, I expanded my understanding of the currents affairs affecting the world while reporting for “El Mercurio” during the Government of former President Sebastian Pinera and attending major international summits and meetings, such as the 68th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) or The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) that took place in Indonesia, in 2013.
Thanks to my performance as a reporter in this area, I received the award for the Best Journalist of the Year (2014) of the Politics Section.
After six years of career in Chile, and because of my strong interest in international news, I moved to London in March 2017 to study an MA in International Journalism at City, University of London. There, I learnt current trends in global journalism, I studied news in all its forms and I practised all platforms of journalism (radio, TV and online). I also worked with different production methods as well as audience needs.
Throughout my career, I've learnt to work under pressure, transforming different ideas into engaging coverage in a fast-moving news environment. This is a process that constantly requires improving my writing skills, working in a team and producing content that engages audiences. I know how relevant it is to be creative in this job and come up with stories that can contribute to the editorial decisions.
